Parking in Batumi: paid zones, the sea and the old town
Batumi is a resort, and in summer the centre and seafront are packed. The key thing to know: parking in the city is paid (run by Batumi Autotransport), but it costs very little and you pay by licence plate. Here's how it works.
Paid parking across the city
Paid parking covers the centre and the coast, and in many districts effectively the whole city. Rates are low: around 1-3 GEL per hour, with daily options for a few GEL. Free spaces exist further from the tourist centre, but don't count on them in season.
How to pay
Payment is tied to your plate. Options:
- Street terminals and pay boxes (orange BOG Pay, blue TBC Pay) — cash and cards.
- Online and in banking apps (TBC Pay, BOG Pay), and parking apps such as Park Mate — pay by plate and extend your time.
- Check payments and fines at batumitransport.ge.
Don't pay the vested "attendants" on the street — they have no authority; only official payment counts.
The seafront and boulevard
Batumi Boulevard (the seaside park) is pedestrian — no cars. Park on the surrounding streets in the paid zone or in the organised lots by the boulevard entrances. Popular spots (the Piazza, the Ferris wheel, the Alphabet Tower) get busy in summer — arrive early.
Old town and the Piazza
The old quarter is compact, the streets are narrow and it's crowded in the evening. There's almost nowhere to park right by the Piazza — leave the car in a paid lot nearby and walk.
At the beach
In peak season, come to the beach in the morning: the nearest spots are taken by midday. Don't park on lawns, pavements or the sand — you'll be fined and towed.
Batumi Airport
The airport is right in the city, a few minutes from the centre, with a paid car park charged by the hour and the day. If you rent with us, we meet you at the exit — no airport parking to worry about.
Tips
- Assume parking in the centre and by the sea is paid — pay by plate straight away.
- Rates are low, but a fine and towing cost far more than an unpaid hour.
- Winter and the shoulder season are calmer and freer.
- Don't leave valuables in view in the car on a busy street.
With a car, Batumi pairs well with Adjara — the Makhuntseti waterfalls, the cable car, the botanical garden. Just decide in advance where you'll leave the car by the sea.
