When you don't need an IDP
If your national licence shows the data in **Latin script**, it is enough both for rental and for the police. That covers:
- all EU licences,
- US, UK, Canadian and Australian licences,
- Israeli and UAE licences,
- most licences worldwide that use Latin characters.
Georgia recognises national licences of Vienna Convention countries, and the practical regime for tourists is liberal: police work happily with any licence they can read.
When an IDP helps
- If your licence is entirely in a non-Latin alphabet with no transliteration.
- If you plan to continue from Georgia into countries where an IDP is formally mandatory.

- Passport.
- A licence with Latin script (or national licence + IDP if there is none).
- Age 21+, 2+ years of driving experience.
