Kutaisi Airport to Batumi and Tbilisi: Bus, Train, Taxi or Your Own Car
Kutaisi Airport (KUT) handles most low-cost flights from Europe, but the sea and the capital are still a drive away: Batumi is about 150 km, Tbilisi about 230 km. Here are all the options, with prices, travel times and pitfalls.
Georgian Bus — to Batumi and Tbilisi
- A direct bus from the airport, with departures tied to arrivals — usually about an hour after landing.
- To Batumi: about 25 GEL and about 3 hours on average, including a stop.
- Tickets often sell out in advance: check the schedule and buy on the operator's website or tkt.ge.
- If your flight is delayed, the bus may leave without you — that's the main risk.
Fast train — to Batumi
- From Kutaisi Airport station the fast train reaches Batumi in under 2 hours.
- Tickets cost about 30 to 70 GEL depending on class, sold on railway.ge and tkt.ge; in season, book 10–14 days ahead.
- 3 trains a day off-season and up to 5 in summer — the timetable doesn't follow your flight.
Minibus from Kutaisi
If you go into the city first, minibuses leave frequently from 67 Chavchavadze Avenue: to Batumi about 15 GEL, to Tbilisi about 20 GEL. But you still need to get from the airport to the city.
Taxi
Bolt, Yandex Go and regular taxis work at the airport. A ride to Batumi costs about 150 GEL on average, depending on the season. The E60 highway takes 2–2.5 hours.
Your own car at the airport
The most flexible option: the car is delivered to your flight, you leave immediately without waiting for a bus, and you can stop at Martvili Canyon or Prometheus Cave on the way.
- Meet in the Kutaisi airport car park by flight number, even if delayed.
- Airport delivery is $60, free for rentals of 7+ days.
- Return the car in Batumi or Tbilisi — no need to go back to Kutaisi.
- For two or three people with luggage for a week it's usually better value than a bus plus taxis in town.
