Fuel in Georgia: Gas Stations, Fuel Types and How to Pay
Filling up in Georgia is easy: there are plenty of gas stations on highways and in towns, most of them open 24/7. A few details help you avoid mistakes.
Station chains
The most common chains are Gulf, Wissol, SOCAR, Rompetrol and Lukoil. On major highways stations appear every few kilometres; in the mountains they are rarer, so fill up before heading to Svaneti, Kazbegi or Racha (for example in Zugdidi, Pasanauri or Kutaisi).
Which fuel to use
Pumps usually offer Regular, Premium and Super, plus diesel. For a rental car check the sticker on the fuel cap and confirm the fuel grade at pickup — the manager will tell you. Diesel cars are marked in the contract and on the cap. Many stations also sell gas (CNG/LPG) — use it only in cars fitted with gas equipment.
Attendants and payment
At most stations an attendant fills the car: tell them the fuel type and the amount in lari or "full tank". You can pay by card or in cash (lari). Keep the receipt in case you need to show the fuel level.
Budgeting for fuel
Prices are displayed at the station entrance and change over time; as a guide, premium petrol costs around 4 GEL per litre (2026). An economical sedan uses 7–9 L/100 km, an AWD crossover a little more. For example, Tbilisi — Batumi (~360 km) costs roughly 105–135 GEL in an economical car — see Tbilisi to Batumi by car.
Rental rule
Return the car with the same fuel level as at pickup. The easiest way is to fill up at the last station before the airport or our Batumi office.
